January Recap + MaMK Review

~ Friday, February 2nd, 2024 (6:44 PM)

before i begin i just wanna state that i am sorry for kinda abandoning the site thruout december and january. ive just been focused on a lotta other things. said things will be discussed momentarily.

today's blog post will be dedicated to rattling off alla the things i did or that happened to me in january, and also late december.

for christmas '23 the major gifts i recieved were: a Huion H420X drawing tablet, a Hydro Gallon water bottle i use when out skating since before id just use an old apple juice carton, a copy of We ♥ Katamari REROLL + Royal Reverie for the Nintendo Switch, and the most surprising one of all, a WHOLE ASS BASS GUITAR. i dunno WHERE my mom got the money for it but hey with a gift like that i aint gonna ask questions.

i know the basics of playing bass now, however i havent been praciticing much because im also still learning japanese. i think ive got most katakana under my belt now! hiragana though, i barely know any. ive pretty been solely focusing on katakana. my plan is to get katakana down pat, and then move on up to hiragana. dont ask me about kanji. i dont even know what im gonna do about that. we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

now then, regarding things happening january, the weather here sucked so much that i wasnt able to skate for most of the month so in light of that i decided to shave ALL my hair off. if youve seen me irl or in a video or smth you know how my hair is (er. was) long, lucious, flowing, graceful, and so on. well it aint like that any longer. its been shaved flat. all it is now is fuzzy. i wanted to go bald but unfortunately the razor we have cant go that far. unfortunate but maybe male pattern baldness will save the day decades from now. we'll just have to see. ive also been praciticing blender in my spare time since i was able to refurbish this old computer my mom used to use. let me just say going from 2.79 to 3.0 is WEIRDDDD. im so used to 2.79 and using a more recent version for the first time was bewildering with just a tad of overstimulation. in spite of that though i can say im familiar with 3.0 blender now, and being able to use cel shading and outline shaders without the limitations of 2.79 is SO LIBERATING. love it love it love it, yes we do ♥.

also im not exactly sure where to fit this in but i wanted to talk abt it. the other day i played thru me and my katamari using ppsspp and my thoughts on it are this:
this game is pretty repetitive. it has you doing the same few size goals over and over in the same few maps. the amount of size goals were so little i can remember most of them. 20cm. 1.5m. 10m. 70m. 100m. 500m. to make it even worse theres only 5 stages with special rules. not really a riveting katamari title.
this next point im actually neutral on: theres not much of an original soundtrack. the game instead opts to use most music from kd and wlk, only menus in the hub have completely original pieces. but as i said only moments ago im neutral about this. im not upset about it but im not ecstatic about it. i enjoy getting to hear katamari holiday again.
in terms of positives for the game, i do very much enjoy the setting of the game. in tandem with the hardware it released on, the PSP, its well complemented. having your own little island while being able to travel to other players islands is very cute the way i see it. the game being visually less powerful than kd is also something i find cute. the low resolution textures for the cousin's faces is something i quite like.

mmm. thats all. not good at concluding. til next time.
